The Dyslexiks

These videos were my first attempt at explaining how to record your first band.

The Music Video
Way back in 2003, the Dyslexiks were a three-piece high-school band struggling to record themselves.  I saw this an an opportunity to teach (via educational video) and show what could be done with minimal gear - a step or two up from what the band could afford (see the Interview video to the right).

The recording was made with three microphones - one each from drums, guitar and vocal - plus a DI for Bass.  The band played everythng live without headphones although the video was shot playing to track.

A Samson mixer and Alesis Adat-XT captured the audio and the "mix" was done on a Soundscape workstation.

This music video is intended to be an example in  an upcoming series tentatively titled "record your first band."

 The Band Interview

This "interview" was originally intended to be the introduction to the alt / punk /metal version of the "Record Your First Band" series.  But I admittedly struggled with making the band comfortable enough to be them selves.

Initially the band recorded themselves to cassette and then to four trak cassette.  A neighbor gave me their tape and I began to help them, first by remote control and later on-site.
